1. MATERIALS TECHNICIAN
The Roads Materials Technician will perform technical duties in the sampling, testing, and inspection of materials - including soil, aggregates, concrete, and bitumen used in road construction and maintenance. This role ensures all materials meet project specifications and regulatory standards through both on-site field testing and laboratory analysis.
Core Responsibilities and Duties
. Field Sampling: Collect representative samples of soil, bituminous mixtures, and aggregates from construction sites, borrow pits and/or stockpiles for quality assessment.
. Quality Control Testing: Perform standardized tests such as moisture-density (using Troxler or similar Nuclear Densimeters), concrete slump, air entrainment, and aggregate gradation.
. Plant Inspection: Verify material proportioning at concrete and asphalt plants; calibrate scales and dispensers to ensure mix accuracy.
. Documentation & Reporting: Record technical data in specialized software and prepare detailed reports on material suitability for the Resident Engineer
. Equipment Maintenance: Clean, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory and field testing equipment to maintain high accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications
. Diploma in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Materials Engineering
. ERB Registration is essential, preferably a Pr.Tech
. 5 to 10 years of Roads and Infrastructure Projects
experience
. Knowledge Materials Management Software and
Data Capturing Tools Essential
