INTERNS (GRADUATE TRAINEES)

A Roads Inspector Intern is responsible for supporting senior inspectors and engineers in monitoring road construction, maintenance, and safety compliance. This role involves daily field inspections, documenting site conditions, and ensuring that contractors follow approved plans and safety regulations. The position is often a hands-on learning experience that combines field work with reporting, often using digital tools and CAD software

Core Responsibilities


. Daily Site Inspections: Conducting on-site checks of road construction, maintenance, and repair projects to ensure quality control and adherence to specifications (e.g., asphalt layers, grading, drainage systems).

. Safety Monitoring: Inspecting traffic management setups, including detours, signage, and barriers, to protect workers and road users.

. Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining daily logs, taking photos, filling out checklists, and preparing reports on site activities and progress.

. Material Verification: Checking materials (soil, aggregates, asphalt) for compliance with standards.

· Contractor Coordination: Assisting in identifying non- compliance issues and communicating with contractors to address deviations from plans.


Key Daily Activities

. Checking Traffic Flow: Monitoring traffic patterns on site.

. Measurements: Measuring quantities of materials and work done for contractor payments.

. Identifying Hazards: Identifying and reporting safety hazards or defects in the road corridor.

. Reporting: Updating supervisors on daily progress and any potential problems.


Common Requirements

. Education: Typically requires an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.

. Technical Skills: Knowledge of reading blue prints and specifications, and basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

. Physical Stamina: Ability to work outdoors, in various weather conditions, and around construction equipment.

. Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills to interact effectively with Project Team members


Minimum Qualifications

. Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Materials Engineering

. ERB Registration is essential

. 3 years of Civil Engineering Projects Essential
